SEE RELATED GENUS of Aelurillinae[PREVIOUS] [NEXT]
Diagnoses of genera of South East Asia: Aelurillus (?; ?). One species of this genus was recorded by Karsch in 1880 from the Philippines. Nothing has been heard since and the record is regarded as doubtful. A typical size for Aelurillus elsewhere is (6-7; 4-5). It is a stout, squat-shaped, rather furry spider. The males can be black, sometimes with a pattern and with light, annulated legs, whilst the females are often a uniformly mottled sandy brown. They like hot, dry, stony places or small bare open areas with dead twigs, etc. amongst low vegetation. Distribution: Aelurillus is widespread in the Palaearctic and in Africa. Distribution: Aelurillus is widespread in the Palaearctic and in Africa. One or two species are recorded from India and Sri Lanka. Murphy & Murphy 2000: 273. Comment by J. Proszynski: Species described as Ictidops constrictus and deruptus by Karsch, 1880 were transfered in catalogs to Aelurillus, without clear premises. Aelurillus quadrimaculatus Simon, 1889 from Himalaya, India and Sri Lanka has no drawings or modern revision.
