Diagnoses of genera of South East Asia: Macaroeris (5.0-6.5;
4.0-5.5). As the name suggests, Wunderlich, in 1992, erected this genus for
a small group of salticids that occur in the Atlantic islands of Macaronesia.
Hitherto, these species had belonged to the large genus Dendryphantes
which, somewhat surprisingly, is absent from our area. Not all Macaroeris
species are restricted to the Macaronesian islands and our species M. moebi
is one such.
Distribution: Macaroeris species have been recorded in the Canary
Islands, Madeira and the Salvage Islands for many years, but M. moebi
has been found in S. China only in recent years. So far, there are no records
of M. moebi in between these regions, although records of the widespread
M. nidicolens stretch from the Canary Islands to the Mediterranean region.
