Monograph of the Salticidae (Araneae) of the World 1995-2015. Introduction to alternative classification of Salticidae
Classification of the Salticidae genera of the World
group of genera
YLLENINES
by Jerzy Prószyński

Version December 31st, 2015
Note on illustrations. This introduction to classification of Salticidae includes only species defined by diagnostic illustrations in the taxonomic literature, arranged by similarities of embolus and spermophor. Images are displayed as thumbnails to save space and allow for rapid scanning of theoretically closely-related species. Thumbnails are small versions of illustrations in other parts of the monograph, whera are displayed together with particulars of their sources and permissions.

Gen. Yllenus Simon,1876 (sensus Prószyński, 2015) (19 species)
[meaning restricted to Yllenus (arenarius group) Prószynski,1968]

Yllenus (arenarius group) Prószynski, 1968e: 479,
Yllenus (arenarius group) Logunov, Marusik 2003b: 85.

Type species Yllenus arenarius.
DIAGNOSIS. Genus consists of remaining species of YLLENINES, sharing general characters with other genera, but differing in characters of palps and epigyne. Male palps with robust cymbium and bulbus, conductor very robust but elongated and flattish, embolus indistinctly longer than bulbus, hairlike but thick. Tibial apophysis varies from prominent to enormous, articulating with corresponding structures of cymbium's wall. Epigyne with median pocket developed as a distinct plate at the posterior edge, in some species bending ventral wards. Copulatory ducts thick walled, usually short and gently bent, spermathecae thick walled.
Drawings below constitute integral part of the genus definition.
