Supra group of genera CHRYSILLOIDA
Contains informal groups of genera: CHRYSILLINES, COLONINES 6 */, HELIOPHANINES 4, ICIINES 2, HOLOPLATINES 5, and SIMAETHINES 3/p>

COMMENT. Tentatively delimited supra group of genera of Salticidae, having embolus arising from a fleshy basis, usually short, bent or straight (Fig. 4E). Basis of embolus may be flat, overlying part of bulbus, or more robust, parallel to bulbus. Anterior end of bulbus may be narrow and conical, or broad. Important accessory character is provided by the bend of spermophor, visible either at anterior edge of bulbus or, more posteriorly, at the retrolateral side of bulbus (Fig. 4B). Epigyne and its internal structures are diverse, may be used for recognition of some groups of genera, but not the supragroup as the whole. General body appearance and color pattern are similarly useful for recognition of particular genera, but not the supragroup as the whole.
Remark. Placement of f COLONINES [= GOPHOINI] - require futher consideration due to uncertain intepretation of its morphology. Arch of spermophor in the anterior half of bulbus resembles CHRYSILLOIDA, but it is not clear whether posterior fleshy area is basis of embolus, overlying bulbus, or is it just part of bulbus with embolus connected in a different way. Diagrammatic drawing of cleared bulbus in Colonus (Fig. 7R) with long, gently bent, hair like embolus confirms that relationship, but remains in conflict with excellent drawing of expanded bulbus of "Cotinusa" sp. (Fig. 10DD) (Ruiz & Maddison, 2015: 255, f. 52) whose curled embolus atop large distal haematodocha suggest rather placement in the supragroup EUOPHRYOIDA. The question requires further checks, for the time being the latter drawing is assumed to depict misidentified species.
*/FOOTNOTE. Placement of COLONINES [= GOPHOINI] - temporary and controversial name of the former group THIODINAE[=Thiodininae] sensu Simon, 1901 [ in difference to tribe THIODINI sensu Bustamante, Maddison & Ruiz (2015)] pending further considerations] due to mixed up understanding of that group.

COMMENT: identification based on single charaters is vulnerable: in example shown above, males of Hasarius adansoni and Euophrys frontalis have similar crest of white setae on palps, however H. adansoni has a pair of very small white dots on abdomen, as well as white edges anteriorly on abdomen and posteriorly on dorsum of thorax, while Euophrys frontalis has red orbital scales, strikingly black and light reflecting patella-metatarsus I and white tarsus I and II. These characters are limited to the mentioned species only, but all species of these genera differ strikingly by male palps and by internal structure of epigyne, as well as color pattern features visible on live specimen. Paper Prószyński, J. (2018a). Review of the genus Hasarius (Araneae: Salticidae) - a taxonomic fiasco. Ecologica Montenegrina 16: 16-31, gives review of failures in identification of Hasarius sp. in a number of porevious publication - I recommend it for arachnologists revising and describing Hasarius.

COMMENT. Palp typical for CHRYSILLINES - if the couple correctly matched then the genus must be placed in CHRYSILLINES. Palp resembles some Phintella, with short sclerotized embolus atop of long and broad, fleshy embolar basis's, distinctlly expanding "lamellar tegular process" resembles such "Phintela" species as "P". suavis, suavisoides, sancha, lepidus, minor, aequipes, aequipeiformis; vittata - there is difference in the color pattern -- Phintella seems to be vivid colored, Heliophanoides are dull grey. Compare also males of H. longlingensis, moi, tengchongensis.

According to description data two females "C" and one male "D" were collected within the space of fifteen days, all labeled from the same locality, there are no data on their sexual relationship. Since no male is known in the genus, there is no possibility to verify matching of sexes [see also palp shown below - A-C].

Historical comment: Genus Lechia Zabka, 1985 was named in honor of Lech Wałęsa, leader of then underground "Solidarność" Union, ten years later he become the President of Republic of Poland. As the paper was published during "Martial Law" in Poland, the strict political censorship would not pass such text for print, so the dedication was camouflaged in the description footnote as " Named after Lech, the legendary founder of Poland [1000 years before]" - no reader in Poland at that time had any doubt about the true intention of that dedication.

COMMENT: Epigyne of this species is compatible with previously documented struture of this species. The palps and habitus appearance of male is surprising, if confirmed on other material it will be important contribution to understanding of these spiders.

Special case - genera Phintella and related
These prolific species are insufficiently separated by genitalic characters (whose diversity is not yet sufficiently understood). It is necessary to include photograps of live specimens in identificarion, simultaneously with with cleared preparations of internal structures of epigyne, and of palps. Genera seem to differ by body shape and size, white spots on carapace and abdominal pattern.

COMMENT: Adoxotoma forsteri is not congeneric with type species of that genus - Adoxotoma nigroolivacea, its male palp is comparable with Proszynellus nasalis but epigyne is entirely different, original description is not clearly illustrated by excellent original drawings by M. Zabka. The species is therefore listed here provisionally as "genus cf. Proszynellus" but final placement depends from future research.

Type species Salticus scenicus (45 species)
Compare species diversity in vol. II at Salticus
ATTENTION: genus Salticus is usually recognizable by body shape and "zebra" abdominal pattern (but that type of pattern occurs also in other genera, around the world) while palpal organ vary considerably, exceeding usual scale of diversity within single genus (S. latidentatus stands out, its classification require re-checking), it seems that most convenient diagnostic character is internal structure epigyne, sufficiently diversified but simultaneously comparable.
