(68 species)

Introduction

ASTIAINES are poorly known and ill defined group of genera living in South Eastern Hemisphere, accepted by contemporary authors as subfamily on the basis of molecular research. Bulbus simple oval, embolus short, arising anterolaterally. Epigyne with small, simple spermathecae, ducts thin, running anteriorly, cheliceral inner posterior tooth - saw-like, but in Adoxotoma bargo fissidentate. External appearance diverse. Diagnostic drawings below are integral part of definition.

Gen. Arasia Simon, 1901 (3 species)

Type species Arasia mollicoma.

Gen. Aruana Strand, 1911 (2 species)

Type species Aruana silvicola.
DIAGNOSIS. Retrolateral posterior angle of cymbium drawn into prominent, rectangular process. Embolus arising from a basis in a form of thin layer ovelying posterior part of bulbus, which resembles that structure in CHRYSILLINES. Chelicerae long with several separate teeth (pluridentate!). Unfortunately unknown female cannot contribute to classification. Diagnostic drawings below are integral part of definition.

Gen. Helpis Simon, 1901 (8 species)

Type species Helpis minitabunda
DIAGNOSIS. "The genus is distinguished by the combination of the following genitalic characters: male palpal organ with cymbial flange, embolus rather short and robust, tegulum more or less ovoid, sometimes with lobe, seminal duct not meandering, tibial apophysis single and simple; female epigyne of most species with large posterior pouch and median guides, copulatory openings oriented towards each other, except in H. wanlessi".
