Note on illustrations. This introduction to classification
of Salticidae includes only species defined by diagnostic illustrations in
the taxonomic literature, arranged by similarities of embolus and spermophor.
Images are displayed as thumbnails to save space and allow for rapid scanning
of theoretically closely-related species. Thumbnails are small versions
of illustrations in other parts of the monograph, whera are displayed
together with particulars of their sources and permissions.
Gen. Mogrus Simon,
1882 (26 species)
Type species Mogrus fulvovittatus.
DIAGNOSIS. Palp characteristic for HYLLINES, with embolus arising perpendicularly to bulbus, next bends and runs parallel to bulbus side. Bulbus broad oval with striking lateral protuberance. Cymbium short, tibial apophysis narrow, moderately long, apically slightly bent. Epigyne oval with a pair of narrow depressions in anterior half, often connected anteriorly and resembling horseshoe, with copulatory openings at their posterior end, invisible externally. Copulatory ducts membranous and broad, run toward posterior end of epigyne, then bend medially and run obliquely towards small, median spermathecae. Part of these structures transluce trough tegument. Body appear robust, with abdomen as long as carapace, abdomen with dark median, serrated streak. Females of at least some species, living in semideserts, built large white retreats atop shrubs, visible from distance, males moves on the ground.
Diagnostic drawings below are integral part of definition.
