Note on illustrations. This introduction to classification of Salticidae includes only species defined by diagnostic illustrations in the taxonomic literature, arranged by similarities of embolus and spermophor. Images are displayed as thumbnails to save space and allow for rapid scanning of theoretically closely-related species. Thumbnails are small versions of illustrations in other parts of the monograph, whera are displayed together with particulars of their sources and permissions.

Gen. Thyene Simon, 1885 (42 species)

Type species Thyene imperialis.
DIAGNOSIS. Genus defined by internal structure of epigyne consisting of a few circular rounds of membranous ducts, arranged dish like, parallel to surface of epigyne and covering deeper laying multi-chambered, sclerotized spermathecae. The armature of scent exuding opening in a form of long duct, chimney like, running from nearby spermathecae to the surface [?] of epigyne. Rims of copulatory ducts straight, delimiting rectangular, white membranous "window". Bulbus is round, with a small flap, encircled by embolus. The structure of epigyne and palp occur in all species of Thyene, independently of shape of carapace, which may be slightly or enormously swollen at the level of eyes III, or parallel sided (such species were classified as Gangus), independently of color pattern and presence of a pair of lateral tufts of hairs near eyes II. Diagnostic drawings below are integral part of definition.
